To book a tatkal ticket for Indian railways one should follow the procedure given below

Tatkal ticket timings

Timing is a crucial factor to book a ticket.

 Online Tatkal booking starts at 10 AM for AC coaches while Tatkal booking for the non-AC sleeper, seating starts at 11 AM.

Login to the website 5 to10 minutes prior fill in the necessary details required such as your origin-destination, date, train number, name, and address, etc.

Tatkal tickets are available for booking one day in advance so if the timing of the train you want to book is after 12pm it will be not listed in the list of trains shown on the screen.

How to book tatkal tickets online?

Select tatkal option

Tick the check box (Book Only if the confirmed berth is allotted)

If you want a waiting ticket you can uncheck it.

Wait-listed tickets are also provided.

Payment options of Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Net Banking, Wallets, Pre-paid Cards, and UPI are available

While booking a tatkal ticket you have to choose a payment option that makes your payment fast so better to choose a wallet payment option as it will directly make payment without receiving an OTP as compared to UPI. 

As the payment is accepted the ticket is allotted to you.

Always check the booking history if you have not received any confirmation.

Check your payment has been deducted. if so it will be reversed.

You can fail while booking a tatkal ticket for the following reasons.

An OTP is sent while making a payment so if it is delayed your payment gets failed.

The payment gateway of a bank may be down or slow. 

Thus you can miss a chance as the number of passengers booking tatkal tickets is more than the seats available.

 If a confirmed ticket is not allotted, You cannot board a train.

 If it gets canceled after chart preparation, the money deducted will be refunded.

Tatkal ticket cancellation

You may cancel a ticket but the amount paid by you will not be refunded.

An extra charge is levied on the passenger for Tatkal ticket booking.

Only two tickets can be booked per user id on one IP address.

Four passengers for a PNR are allowed

Though having a lot of restrictions Tatkal tickets cannot be booked quickly.

Can TDR be filed for tatkal tickets?

TDR- Ticket deposit receipt can be filed for cancellation in case the train for which you have booked a Tatkal ticket is either canceled or is more than three hours late. TDR has to be filed within two days. after logging select Booked Ticket History. select the PNR of the ticket on which TDR is to be filed.
