A PAN number is a number issued by the income tax department, it is essential to pay income taxes. The pan number helps to identify and authenticate your tax filing details. A 10-digit alphanumeric number is provided when a pan card is allotted. This 10-digit alphanumeric value is called the PAN card number.

The particulars mentioned in the pan card contain your name, date of birth, photograph, father’s name, signature, and PAN number. 

How to apply for a new PAN card?

You can apply online or offline and get the card within a few days. Offline method of filling out a pan card form on paper and then submitting it by sending it to the pan card office, though it is not preferred nowadays.

What is a physical mode in a PAN card?

While applying for a new PAN Card. If you have chosen physical mode, you would have to submit the filled-up pan card form online, after submitting you have to print this form, the printed application form should be signed by the applicant and delivered to the nearest UTITSL branch office.

What is the digital mode in PAN cards?

If you choose a digital mode, an OTP is sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar, Aadhaar authentication is done as you insert OTP.
In digital mode, there is no need to submit signatures and documents.

How can I correct my PAN card?

The Pan card application form has two options,
Apply for a new pan card.
Requests for changes or corrections in PAN data or requests for reprint of PAN card (for an existing PAN)

The applicant has to fill out PAN Change Request Form online and submit the form

If you have applied for a pan card, earlier check with your acknowledgment receipt whether the pan card has been issued.

Never fill out the application for a new pan card if you have an existing card.

In case of a lost pan card or any other queries like a signature mismatch, name or date of birth, or photo mismatch always fill out the pan correction form.

⦁Choose the applicant type and the type of PAN card that you want – both physical and e-PAN or only e-PAN.

⦁ For foreign citizens, Form 49AA should be filled out and submitted online.

Mention the pan card number if you are applying for correction.

check the boxes in front of the description stating for which the correction has to be made, with Provide proper document proof.

PAN applicant should provide a scanned photograph, signature, and supporting documents of Proof of Identity (POI) /Proof of Address (POA). as per the required specification, then submit your form along with the all attached documents in the nearest NSDL office.

You will receive a message after the pan card is allotted and will be sent to the address provided in the application.
If you have opted for e-pan you may download it from your mail id.


Fill out the pan card form carefully and avoid mistakes in it check the details before submitting . After verification, if the pan card is under objection, you may have to clear the objection by producing the correct documents, this may delay the process and you not receive the pan card when needed by you.
